Demographers

History

Population studies of one kind or another have always been of interest for various reasons. As early as the mid-1600s, for example, the English were the first to systematically record and register all births and deaths. Over the years, recording techniques were refined and expanded to conduct more sophisticated population surveys so that governments could collect information, such as number of people and extent of property holdings, to measure wealth and levy taxes.

In recent years, census taking has become much more comprehensive, and the scientific methods of collecting and interpreting demographic information have also improved extensively. Demographers now have a leading role in developing detailed population studies that are designed to reveal the essential characteristics of a society, such as the availability of health care or average income levels.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used by demographers to collect and analyze data. "The use of AI in population studies applies intelligent techniques and algorithms in analyzing population data, predicting population trends, and understanding the dynamics of population, which provides new opportunities for population researchers," according to Dr. Nasibeh Esmaeili in "The ŮŽApplication of Artificial Intelligence in Demography."
