Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

The most successful entrepreneurs have previous experience in the field in which they are developing a product or service (or launching a business), as well as some experience (classes, internships, etc.) in business and marketing.

Entrepreneurs must have a basic understanding of accounting, finance, and business management practices—or be willing to learn about these areas. They must know how to use business technology such as accounting, customer relationship management, and sales software, as well as have expertise in marketing (including on social media) and branding.

Successful entrepreneurs are enthusiastic; passionate about their product, service, or business; and motivated to overcome obstacles that they encounter as they develop, launch, and sell their product or open a business. They must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to educate potential investors and/or customers about their product, service, or business. Other important traits include creativity; an innovative and flexible personality; excellent leadership, time-management, problem-solving, and organizational skills; determination and patience; strong ethics; and a willingness to work hard to reach one’s goals.
