Event Planners

Outlook

Employment of meeting, convention, and event planners is projected to grow 7 percent through 2028, faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The introduction of new technology and the growth of international business have enabled more meetings to take place than ever before. Telecommunications technology, which can sometimes take the place of conferences, has been found to also spur growth in this field, as people who initially connect online then meet to further their business. Competition for jobs will be strong because many people view this career as interesting and rewarding. Opportunities will be best for those with a bachelor's degree in meeting and event management, hospitality, or tourism management; certification (especially the certified meeting professional credential); experience in the field; and knowledge of virtual meeting software and social media.
