Radiologists

Outlook

Employment for physicians and surgeons overall is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2028, according to the Department of Labor. Radiologists will continue to have good job prospects in the coming years. Several factors are contributing to this growth: the aging population, new technologies, and more access to health insurance. Medical advances and new technologies are enabling early detection and treatment of diseases and disorders. As people live longer, they will need radiology examinations and treatments for various medical conditions, such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease. More people have access to health insurance, and continual innovations in radiologic technologies and techniques are making many imaging modalities less expensive.

There are employment opportunities across the country, with rural areas and towns in particular need of radiologists and other physicians and medical professionals. Radiologists who are board certified and who have expertise in the latest radiologic technologies, diagnostic tests, and therapies will have the advantage in the job market.
