Unions and Associations

Some engineers may be represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (http://www.ifpte.org) and other unions. Major professional associations for biomedical engineers include the Biomedical Engineering Society, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, Biotechnology Industry Organization, Biotechnology Institute, and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America is an organization of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the United States. The American Society for Engineering Education is a “nonprofit organization of individuals and institutions committed to furthering education in engineering and engineering technology.” Biomedical engineers in Canada often join the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society.
