Chief Trust Officers

Education and Training Requirements

High School

Learn as much as you can about the business world and current events by taking classes in business management, finance, accounting, and social studies. Other recommended classes include writing, speech, foreign language, philosophy, psychology, mathematics, and computer science.

Postsecondary Education

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required to enter the field, although many CTOs have master’s degrees. These degrees are in a wide range of areas—including business management, information security, risk management, and customer relationship management. Some CTOs have law degrees. Students typically complete internships, co-operative education experiences, or other experiential learning opportunities as part of their training.

Certification

Certificates are available in compliance, information management and security, customer relationship management, customer experience, and other areas of focus for chief trust officers. They are offered by colleges and universities, professional associations, and online learning platforms. For example, the American Management Association offers Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Leadership, Business Communication, Business Essentials, and other certificate programs.

Other Education or Training

Chief trust officers can expand their knowledge of information management and security, diversity, compliance, privacy, customer relationship management, and other topics—as well as learn about evolving technologies and business practices—by taking classes and webinars that are offered by professional associations, postsecondary institutions, and other providers.
