Customer Service Directors

Work Environment

Since customer service is so important, most companies have customer service directors or at least employ someone to handle the responsibilities of that job. Customer service directors work in many industries including business services, education, government, retail and wholesale, software, telecommunications, transportation, healthcare, hospitality and leisure, insurance, Internet services, media, and pharmaceuticals.

Directors generally work in offices, spending a great deal of time on the phone, on computers, and doing research. Depending on the specific employment situation, they may go out in the field training customer service agents or representatives. They may also need to travel to perform quality control assessments of the company's customer service department. Some directors host focus groups with consumers in which they gather information about customers' views of the company, its products and services, and customer service. These may be held at the company or at an external location.

This is typically a 40 hour a week job, although directors may need to work overtime when special projects are due or problems need to be handled.
