Salaries are determined by the experience and education of the cytotechnologist and by the type and size of employer. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that clinical laboratory technologists and technicians, including cytotechnologists, earned a median annual salary of $52,330 in May 2019, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The lowest 10 percent earned $29,910 or less, and the highest 10 percent earned $80,330 or more. Fifty percent of technologists and technicians earned between $38,310 and $66,920.
