Salaries are determined by the experience and education of the cytotechnologist and by the type and size of employer. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that clinical laboratory technologists and technicians, including cytotechnologists, earned a median annual salary of $60,780 in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The lowest 10 percent earned $36,770 or less, and the highest 10 percent earned $93,900 or more.
