According to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), median annual earnings for epidemiologists were $81,390 in May 2023, with the lowest 10 percent earning less than $54,950, and the highest 10 percent earning more than $132,230. The DOL reports that epidemiologists in the following states and territories had the highest mean salaries:

1. Wisconsin: $121,150
2. Massachusetts: $114,300
3. Washington: $113,790
4. North Carolina: $110,410
5. New Jersey: $108,790

Epidemiologists who work full time for government agencies and other employers receive benefits such as vacation days, sick leave, health and life insurance, and a savings and pension program. Self-employed epidemiologists must provide their own benefits.
