Go-to-Market Managers

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

You will need one to three years of experience in marketing, marketing strategy, sales, product management, product development, and project management to qualify to work as a GTM manager.

Go-to-market managers must be proficient in the use of customer relationship management (especially Salesforce), enterprise resource planning, and content management systems software. Strong data analytics skills are also important.

Go-to-market managers need analytical skills to analyze complex data sets, interpret market data, and identify trends. Creativity, curiosity, flexibility, a strategic mindset, and a deep understanding of marketing and branding principles are critical for creating effective go-to-market strategies. Go-to-market managers must have excellent communication (including listening and presentation) and interpersonal skills to present complex concepts and strategies to stakeholders, explain why their company’s product or service is superior to those of their competitors, and to work closely with product managers, marketing professionals, designers, sales representatives, and executives. Other important traits include problem-solving skills; strong organizational and time-management abilities to effectively manage complex data and multiple projects, as well as staff; top-notch leadership and project management skills; and a detail-oriented personality.
