Job opportunities for all lawyers are projected to grow 5 percent through 2033, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. This is about as fast as the average for all careers. Employment for attorneys who work for aerospace product and parts manufacturing companies is expected to increase 2.5 percent during this same time span.

We’re at the beginning of a new age of both space exploration, with NASA’s planned trips to the moon and Mars, and space commerce: the emergence of space tourism, the expansion of satellite and broadband technologies in space, the growing use of reconnaissance and surveillance technology in space, and expanding private/public aerospace partnerships. “A fundamental shift in space activities is now taking place, which is propelling the growth and importance of space law,” according to the Space Law Committee of the American Bar Association. The committee says that “such ‘NewSpace’ activities are pushing the regulatory and policy envelope for domestic and international space law and heightening the importance of the field of space law for years to come.” As a result, the future is bright for space lawyers, especially those with extensive experience and who stay up-to-date on industry developments.
