Traffic Managers

Outlook

The U.S. advertising industry generates $55 billion in revenue and is expected to continue growing relatively well through 2025, as reported by market research group IBISWorld. This growth is being attributed to the continued popularity of digital mediums such as tablets and smartphones, which are providing advertising agencies with additional revenue streams. In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic disrupted growth in this industry, as well as most industries around the world, but the economy is expected to start growing again by 2021, and likewise ad spending will start to increase.

Advertising and promotions managers will have a decline in employment growth (1 percent) through 2029, according to the Department of Labor. Companies will continue hiring advertising agencies for help with advertising current products as well as introducing new products to consumers. In addition, agencies that develop digital media campaigns that use Web sites, social media, or live chats may need traffic managers. Many people are interested in working in advertising, however, and competition for jobs is keen. Those with strong knowledge of project management software, MS Office programs such as Excel and PowerPoint, and a bachelor's degree in advertising or marketing will have the best job prospects.
