Chief Sustainability Officers

Employment for chief executives is expected to decline through 2028, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Fewer new firms have been created in recent years and economic activity and employment has centered on larger, long-established companies. However, some companies will continue to need chief sustainability officers to help them reduce their carbon footprint and operate environmental programs that are in compliance with government regulations. Increasing efforts by companies to "go green" may spur demand for sustainability officers. Competition is keen for this position. Chief sustainability officers with an advanced degree and five or more years of management experience in sustainability will have the advantage in the job market.
