Machine Learning Engineers

Machine learning engineers work in comfortable offices. They have a typical 9 to 5 work schedule, although they may need to work at night and on weekends when projects are on a tight deadline. Most tech companies have a laid-back work atmosphere, while MLEs who work for government agencies and non-tech corporations will experience a more conservative work environment. The tech industry is male-dominated. Nearly 84 percent of MLEs surveyed by PayScale.com in 2020 were male. Sexual discrimination and harassment are a major issue at some tech companies (and in the larger work world), but many companies and organizations are working hard to improve the workplace environment and advancement opportunities for women and racial minorities.

A survey of MLEs in 2020 by PayScale.com found that 76 percent were “highly satisfied” with their careers. Many machine learning engineers enjoy this career because of the high pay and the opportunity to be on the cutting-edge of technology.
