Unions and Associations

Neurologists are not typically represented by unions, but they can join professional associations at the state and national levels. The Society for Neuroscience describes itself as the “world’s largest organization of scientists and physicians devoted to understanding the brain and nervous system.” It has nearly 37,000 members in more than 90 countries and over 130 chapters worldwide. The society offers membership for college students and current professionals, career information, professional development opportunities, and other resources. It also publishes the Journal of Neuroscience, Neuroscience Quarterly, and other resources. The International Youth Neuroscience Association (IYNA) offers a Neuro& Careers Certificate Track, publishes IYNA Journal, and offers summer exploration programs and competitions for college students. It also offers a Neuroethics Essay Contest for high school and college students. Other useful organizations include the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society and the Cognitive Neuroscience Society.
