Space Tourism Managers

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

The ideal job candidate has at least five years of experience working in high-level business, operations, flight control, engineering, or marketing positions in commercial aerospace, with NASA or other space programs, or the military. Some employers prefer candidates with demonstrated experience in a startup environment

Space tourism managers must have strong technical and operational backgrounds—ideally in the space or aerospace industries. Managers need to possess strong organizational and planning abilities across multiple disciplines (e.g., business, marketing, customer service) because, in many cases, they are developing space tourism programs from scratch or improving and expanding existing ones. They must be enthusiastic about the possibilities of space tourism and willing to stay up-to-date regarding developments in this constantly evolving field. Other important traits include superior communication and interpersonal skills, a high degree of emotional intelligence, leadership ability, patience, creativity, drive, determination, and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
