Exploring This Job

Get a part-time or summer job in a company that offers strategic management services or in a company with a strategy management department. Find job listings on Web sites such as Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn, and through professional associations' Web sites. Your school's career services office can also help you with the job search. Conduct an information interview with a strategy manager to find out what their work and educational background is and what advice they have on how to get started in this profession. Suggested interview questions include: What made you want to enter this career? What do you like most and least about your job? How did you train for this field? What are some key skills for success? What advice would you give to young people about preparing for the field and being successful on the job? Perhaps you could even job-shadow a strategy manager to learn even more about the field.
