Building Performance Diagnosticians

Advancement Prospects

A building performance diagnostician can advance to work in supervisory, managerial, or executive positions or by launching their own consulting firms. With additional education and training, BPDs can advance to other positions. For example, building scientists use their knowledge of physics, engineering, chemistry, energy efficiency, green construction methods, architecture, and the life sciences to study and better understand the lifecycle of buildings. An energy efficiency manager oversees, maintains, and seeks to reduce energy use and improve energy efficiency for the energy and utility systems of entire building complexes—such as corporate campuses, hospitals, colleges and universities, government buildings, school districts, hotels and resorts, and apartment buildings.
