Building Performance Diagnosticians

Work Environment

Building performance diagnosticians work 40 hours a week. Monday through Friday, but they occasionally work on weekends when demand for their services is high. They travel frequently to the homes, businesses, and factories of their clients to inspect and evaluate mechanical, electrical, and other types of systems; building envelopes; and other systems and structures. They often climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and otherwise do their jobs in physically demanding conditions. Building performance diagnosticians also work in offices, conducting research, evaluating data that was collected at a job site, and meeting with colleagues and clients regarding projects.
