Cancer Exercise Specialists

The U.S. Department of Labor does not provide an employment outlook for the career of cancer exercise specialist, but it does provide outlooks for occupations in which these specialists begin their careers. Employment of fitness trainers and instructors, exercise physiologists, physical therapists, and physical therapist assistants is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2032.

While modern medicine has made advances regarding cancer prevention and treatment, nearly 20 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year. The International Agency for Research on Cancer predicts that there will be 27.5 million new cancer cases in 2040. “The future burden will probably be even larger due to increasing prevalence of factors that increase risk, such as smoking, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and fewer childbirths, in economically transitioning countries,” according to the American Cancer Society. These sobering statistics suggest that demand will grow for cancer exercise specialists. The good news is that the increasing use of CESs translates into improved health outcomes for people with cancer.
