Cancer Exercise Specialists

Work Environment

Cancer exercise specialists work in fitness and rehabilitation centers. They typically work a 9-to-5 schedule, Monday through Friday, but may also assist clients in the early evening and on weekends. Specialists assist people of all ages, including children. In fact, approximately 400,000 children develop cancer worldwide each year, according to the World Health Organization.

This job can be stressful because specialists work with people who may be very sick, as well as frustrated or even angry about their physical limitations. Additionally, it can be sad—and even heartbreaking—when a favorite patient can no longer continue their exercise regimen because of failing health. Specialists must also understand that some patients may die despite their best efforts to help them. Many cancer exercise specialists love the fact that this career allows them to help people and play an important role in improving people’s health and restoring their confidence and dignity.
