Certification or Licensing
General genealogists can seek voluntary certification from the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (which awards the accredited genealogist designation) and the Board for Certification of Genealogists (certified genealogist, certified genealogical lecturer, and certified genetic genealogist designations). There are many benefits to becoming certified. “As an accredited genealogist professional, you’re more likely to attract many clients and job offers, including legal firms, genealogy companies, and individuals seeking top-tier genealogical services,” according to the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists. “Your enhanced reputation can lead to more business opportunities and a higher rate for your services.” Citizenship reclamation specialists do not need to be licensed.
Several years of experience in general genealogical research, plus an internship or co-op at a law firm or other employer that provides citizenship reclamation services
