Aspiring CRSs must have several years of experience in general genealogical research, plus complete an internship or co-op at a law firm or other employer that provides citizenship reclamation services.
Successful citizenship reclamation specialists have strong time-management, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. They are curious and patient and willing to work hard to track down information and continue to work hard even if they face potential dead ends. Specialists who plan to operate their own businesses must have the following additional skills: financial management, contract management, project management, business writing, and marketing and sales.
