Citizenship reclamation specialists are employed by genealogical research firms and law firms. Some operate their own genealogical research firms.
Starting Out
Most people don’t start out as citizenship reclamation specialists. Instead, they begin their careers as traditional genealogists and gradually expand their knowledge base by taking classes that are offered by professional associations, colleges and universities, and for-profit education companies. Others participate in internships at companies that provide citizenship reclamation services to build their skills and experience. Once they have the expertise and training necessary to work as a citizenship reclamation specialist, they launch their own business, seek employment at a firm that provides citizenship reclamation services, or begin to offer these services along with traditional genealogical services.
