Directors of Telehealth

Exploring This Job

Learn as much as you can about telehealth by checking out Why Use Telehealth? (https://telehealth.hhs.gov/patients/why-use-telehealth) and Fundamentals of Telemedicine and Telehealth, by Shashi Gogia, and Telemedicine: A Practical Guide for Professionals, by Andrea Kamenca.

Consider joining HOSA-Future Health Professionals, a global membership organization for middle school, high school, and college students who are interested in learning about health care careers, meeting others with the same interests, and developing their leadership skills. It has more than 260,000 members and offers scholarships, competitions, the HOSA eMagazine, and other resources.

Other ways to learn more about the field and develop your leadership skills include joining school clubs and working in management positions, participating in a telehealth consultation with your doctor (if your health care providers offer it), and participating in information interviews with telehealth directors. Suggested interview questions include: What made you want to enter this career? What type of technology do you use to do your work? What do you like most and least about your job? How did you train for this field? What advice would you give to young people about preparing for the field and being successful on the job?
