Holistic Physicians

The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) predicts that employment for physicians will grow about as fast as the average for all careers through 2033. Demand for holistic physicians is expected to keep pace with the demand for conventional physicians due to the recent rapid growth in interest in alternative health care approaches.

Rising health care costs have caused the government to reexamine the health care system. As efforts to control health care costs increase, the general public, the government, and the insurance industry will turn more and more to physicians who provide cost-effective, quality health care services.

Employment opportunities are expected to be best for primary care physicians, including general and family practitioners. Preventive care specialists and geriatric specialists will be in demand; these are areas in which holistic physicians excel.

The OOH predicts that with the rising costs of health care, physicians will be more likely to take salaried jobs in group medical practices, clinics, and integrated health care systems instead of opening their own practices.
