Learning Innovations Designers

Employment Prospects

Employers

Learning innovations designers are employed by educational technology companies, consulting firms, education start-ups, educational software and textbook companies, corporations, elementary and secondary schools and school districts, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. They also work for colleges and universities. Some schools have centers that focus on education innovation. Examples include the Center for Learning Innovation at the Illinois Institute of Technology and the College of William & Mary's Center for Innovation in Learning Design.

Starting Out

Many people break into the field after first working as teachers, instructional designers, or digital design professionals. They learn about job openings via professional associations (i.e. networking events, job boards), by applying directly for job openings at the Web sites of potential employers, and by using professional networking sites such as LinkedIn.
