Employment for the related career of instructional coordinators (who oversee school curriculums and teaching standards and develop, implement, and evaluate instructional materials) is projected to grow 2 percent from 2023 to 2033, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). This is more slowly than the average for all occupations. Job opportunities in another related occupation, training and development specialist (who plan and administer workplace education programs), are expected to increase 12 percent during the same time span. This is much faster than the average. The DOL says that “innovations in training methods and learning technology should continue throughout the next decade.”

Learning innovations designers will have good job prospects as a result of advances in technology (especially as they relate to classroom learning and the delivery of online education), increasing openness to new learning methods and formats, and a desire to improve educational outcomes. Those with considerable experience, a doctoral degree, and a reputation for developing innovative education practices that produce positive results will have the best job prospects.
