Learning Innovations Designers

A minimum of three years of experience in several of the following fields is required to work as a learning innovations designer: instructional design, user experience design, universal design, deeper learning, learning analytics, learning sciences, educational technology, pedagogy, and curriculum development. The ideal candidate also has knowledge of learning management systems, online course design experience, fluency using eLearning content development tools for creating instructional media (such as interactive presentations, video, and multimedia), and experience with motion graphics or video production.

Key personal traits for LIDs include excellent communication (including listening), interpersonal, collaboration, and customer service skills; creativity and the ability to think “outside the box”; strong analytical, critical thinking, time management, project management, and organizational skills; the ability to accept constructive criticism; the ability to manage multiple projects at different stages, while meeting deadlines and quality standards; and a willingness to continue to learn throughout one’s career.
