The Job

Job responsibilities for learning innovations designers vary based on their employer, educational background, skill set, professional experience, and other factors. But all designers try to create new types of in-person and online learning experiences and reimagine and otherwise improve existing ones. Here are some examples of learning innovations design:

  • Using social polling and feedback tools with learners to create a personalized educational experience
  • Utilizing augmented and virtual reality to create educational content at a museum
  • Incorporating videos, infographics, animations, and quizzes into corporate online training modules to make them more interesting to 20-something employees
  • Utilizing board and video games during middle school classroom lessons to enhance learning
  • Incorporating virtual reality technology into high school science classes to help students become more immersed in a topic and interact with “real” objects instead of seeing things on flat screens
  • Brainstorming ways to improve pedagogy (the method and practice of teaching)
  • Reimagining the physical space in classrooms and libraries to better facilitate learning
  • Developing new educational pathways (or accelerated pathways) to earn a degree or otherwise train for a career
  • Designing apps that students can use in the classroom to complement instruction via lectures and textbook readings
