Packaging Engineers

Outlook

The U.S. Department of Labor does not provide data specifically for packaging engineers, but information can be drawn from its report on industrial engineers, a broader discipline that includes packaging engineers. The DOL predicts 12 percent job growth, much faster than average, for this group through 2033. Packaging engineers work in almost any industry because virtually all manufactured products need one or more kinds of packaging. Some of the industries with the fastest growing packaging needs are food, drugs, and cosmetics.

Demand for packaging engineers will stem from the need for newer, faster ways of packaging, which are continually being sought to meet the needs of economic growth, world trade expansion, and environmental concerns. Increased efforts are also being made to develop packaging that is easy to open for the growing aging population and those persons with disabilities.
