Precision Medicine Specialists

Aspiring precision medicine specialists must earn a college or medical degree in their chosen profession. They also must participate in fellowships, internships, clinical rotations, or other experiential education opportunities in precision medicine.

Precision medicine specialists who conduct research need excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. They also need creativity and the ability to “think outside the box,” patience, determination, and a detail-oriented and inquisitive personality. Precision medicine physicians, genetic counselors, nurses, and others in patient care settings must have strong interpersonal and communication abilities (including good listening skills and the ability to explain complex topics to patients and others who do not have a science background). Other important traits include empathy, patience, and top-notch time-management, organizational, and information management skills.
