The career of software developer was listed as one of the 10 fastest-growing careers from 2022 through 2032, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Employment for software developers is expected to increase by 26 percent through this time span. The DOL says that "increased demand for software developers . . . will stem from the continued expansion of software development for artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, robotics, and other automation applications" [as well as] "because of the increasing number of products that use software." Back-end developers who are certified and up-to-date on the latest technology and programming languages will have the best job prospects.
