Unions and Associations

Some metallurgical technicians may belong to unions such as the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furniture Workers; the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; and the International Union, United Automobile, Aircraft and Agricultural Implement Workers of America. In addition, there are many organizations that provide useful resources (membership, continuing education, publications, conferences, etc.) including the American Foundry Society; ASM International; Association for Iron & Steel Technology; The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society; SME; and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration. ABET accredits colleges and universities that offer engineering education programs.
