Build reliability engineers work for government-funded space agencies such as NASA and the European Space Agency. Many are employed by large aerospace and space exploration companies such as Blue Origin, SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and Boeing. They also work for smaller private space companies and startups such as Argo Space Corp, Astrobotic Technology, Axiom Space, bluShift Aerospace, Gilmour Space Technologies, K2 Space, Lunar Outpost, and Stellar Exploration. Some engineers operate their own consulting firms, while others work as college professors.

Starting Out

Many aspiring engineers land their first jobs after participating in internships and other experiential education opportunities at aerospace companies and getting noticed by internship managers. Companies often use internship programs to identify promising job candidates, so be sure to participate in these opportunities while in college. Aerospace companies also conduct on-campus interviews and other activities to locate the best candidates.

Other job-search strategies include attending career fairs and other networking events, using the resources of your school’s career services center, and visiting the Web sites of target employers to learn about and apply for open positions.
