ETL Developers

History

The ETL data integration process became popular with businesses in the 1970s due to the increasing amounts of data that were collected and moved to databases for storage and analysis. Data warehouses (specialized databases) began to be used in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The software firm SAS reports that developers started creating a variety of ETL solutions to integrate access to data from mainframe computers, personal computers, spreadsheets, and other sources. The career of ETL developer emerged to create specialized software to perform and facilitate ETL processes. In later years, organizations began using complementary methods such as ELT (extract, load, transform), and developers may also create software for this process.
