ETL Developers

Work Environment

ETL developers work in comfortable and climate-controlled business offices. Most work a standard 40-hour week Monday-Friday. Some are required to work at night and on weekends when project deadlines loom or work assignments become too overwhelming to complete during a normal workweek.

In 2024, U.S. News & World Report ranked the career of software developer (including ETL developer) as number one for best technology jobs and number three in its "100 Best Jobs" list as a result of its high earnings, strong employment outlook, large number of job openings, and good work-life balance. The only ranking category in which developers received an average” score was “workplace stress.” The occupation received a “5.1” out of “10” (the best numerical ranking) in regard to stress. Factors that can create a stressful work environment include coding and testing challenges, unrealistic expectations by supervisors, frequent changes to software specifications by clients, tight deadlines, and too much overtime.
