Certification or Licensing

The American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers offers voluntary certification to working bookkeepers or those with one year of college accounting or the equivalent that pass a national examination. Bookkeepers who complete this requirement may use the designation certified bookkeeper. The National Bookkeepers Association offers eight certification categories: bookkeeping, payroll, QuickBooks, accounting, accounting analysis, tax, business tax, and office manager. Applicants become certified by passing a national uniform examination.
