Bookkeeping and Accounting Clerks

Unions and Associations

Once you are employed as a bookkeeping and accounting clerk, some places of business may require you to have union membership. Larger unions include the Office and Professional Employees International Union; the Industrial Division of the Communications Workers of America; and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. Also, depending on the business, clerks may be represented by the same union as other manufacturing employees.

The American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers and the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers are membership organizations that provide certification, publications, continuing education, and networking opportunities. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accredits business-related postsecondary educational programs. The Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting offers scholarships to female college students who are interested in pursuing education in accounting.
