Work Environment
Most business intelligence analysts are employed full time and spend much of the work day either in their office or their clients' offices. They travel frequently for meetings and to work on site at clients' offices. The job can be stressful at times; some clients may be difficult and project deadlines may be tight. Analysts must stay professional and patient to manage these challenges effectively. According to the Department of Labor, approximately 14 percent of management analysts are self-employed, which can create added stress in terms of managing the wide variety of responsibilities, including growing and maintaining a client base, securing wages, overseeing staff, and covering business expenses such as office rent and insurance. Many business intelligence analysts must contend with long work hours to meet deadlines, and some work more than 40 hours per week.
