Unions and Associations
Directors of security do not belong to unions, but they may join trade associations that promote professional standards in the industry and bring together people who are interested in the security profession. One example is ASIS International, which provides networking opportunities and continuing education classes, publishes Security Management magazine and a blog, and offers the Today in Security News Feed on its Web site. Individuals working in the hospitality industry, might also pursue certification that is offered by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. Other useful organizations include the International Association of Professional Security Consultants (which publishes a blog and offers webinars) and the International Security Management Association (which hosts hosts conferences and offers a blog).
