Geriatric Psychiatrists

Unions and Associations

Most geriatric psychiatrists are not members of unions, but some may be represented by the Doctors Council SEIU or another union. Professional associations that provide useful resources (publications, continuing education, networking opportunities, etc.) include the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, American Psychiatric Association, and the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education. Many receive board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. The Association of American Medical Colleges and American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine represent all accredited U.S. and Canadian medical schools, major teaching hospitals and health systems, and academic and scientific societies. Other helpful organizations include the Administration on Aging, Alzheimer's Association, National Institute on Aging, and Mental Health America.
