Salaries for hospice workers are similar to those of their counterparts in a more typical medical setting and generally are based on the position, the educational requirements for that position, and the level of experience of the worker.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), health care social workers who worked for home health agencies had mean annual salaries of $72,990 in May 2023, while those employed by nursing care facilities averaged $58,230 per year. The lowest 10 percent of all health care social workers earned $41,840 or less, while the highest 10 percent earned $97,790 or more.

Mean annual earnings of registered nurses who worked for home health services providers were $87,430 in May 2023, according to the DOL. Salaries for all registered nurses ranged from less than $63,720 to more than $132,680. Hospice nurses earned average annual salaries of $87,186 in 2024, according to ZipRecruiter.com. Salaries ranged from $41,500 to $143,500 or more.

Mean annual earnings of physical therapists who worked for home health care services were $116,500 in May 2023, according to the DOL. Earnings for all physical therapists ranged from $72,260 to $130,870 or more.

Salaries for all nursing assistants ranged from $30,020 to $48,780 or more in May 2023, according to the DOL. Mean annual earnings of nursing assistants who worked for home health care services were $35,640.

Fringe benefits are usually similar to those of other full-time heath care workers and may include sick leave, vacation, health and life insurance, and tuition assistance.
