Internet Executives

Earnings

Salary levels for Internet executives vary substantially, depending upon their level of responsibility, length of service, and the type, size, and location of the organization for which they work. Top-level executives in large firms can earn much more than their counterparts in small firms. Also, salaries in large metropolitan areas tend to be higher than those in smaller cities.

Robert Half Technology reported the following salary ranges by specialty for Internet executives in 2025: chief technology officers, $188,000 to $275,750; chief information officers, $221,500 to $302,750; and vice president of information technology, $160,250 to $223,250. Top executives at successful Internet companies see few limits to their earnings potential; salaries into the millions of dollars are not uncommon for CEOs and other key executives.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, chief executives of all organizations had median annual earnings of $206,680 in May 2023. Ten percent earned less than $80,000.

Benefit and compensation packages for Internet executives are usually excellent and may include stock awards and options, cash incentives in addition to bonuses, company-paid insurance premiums, use of company cars, club memberships, expense accounts, and generous retirement benefits.
