Internet Executives

History

Since the early 1990s, online business or e-commerce has been extended to virtually every industry. Advertising, distance education programs, sales, banking, tax filing, Web conferencing, bill payment, and online auctions are just a few of the business outlets in which the Internet has profoundly played a role. Companies that have developed a Web presence in these industries, either in addition to or as a replacement for a brick-and-mortar-business, need management executives to run their online business dealings just as a normal business needs a CEO. This is the job of Internet executives.

In the 21st century, Internet executives also must tie several forms of media to their Web site to ensure steady customer flow. Social media sites also drive traffic, and executives must work with others in their businesses to create successful strategies incorporating a growing range of online media outlets.
