Internet Executives

Work Environment

Internet executives work in comfortable offices near the departments they direct. Top executives at established companies may have spacious, lavish offices with comfortable desks and chairs, PCs, phones, and most have personal support staff. They may enjoy such privileges as having executive dining rooms, company cars, club memberships, and liberal expense accounts.

Executives often travel between the company's various offices at the national, regional, or local levels. Top executives may travel to meet with executives in other corporations, both within the United States and abroad. Meetings and conferences sponsored by industries and associations occur regularly and provide invaluable opportunities to meet with peers and keep up with the latest developments. In large corporations, job transfers between the parent company and its local offices or subsidiaries are common, so executives must be prepared to move for their work.

Executives often work long hours under intense pressure to meet corporate goals. A typical workweek might consist of 55 to 60 hours at the office. Some executives, in fact, spend up to 80 hours working each week. These long hours limit time available for family and leisure activities, but the financial rewards can be great.
