Internet Executives

Outlook

The U.S. Department of Labor reports that employment of computer and information systems managers is expected to grow much faster than the average (by 17 percent) through 2033, as Internet and social-media businesses continue to grow and new companies are formed. Many companies are expanding their markets internationally, and e-commerce plays a vital role in these efforts. For this reason, Internet executives will continue to be in high demand for many years. Additionally, traditional brick-and-mortar businesses continue to increase their presence on the Internet and to expand their markets internationally, using their e-commerce sites as a tool for doing so. The demand will be high for candidates with strong managerial skills and a solid understanding of computer and Internet technology. Education and experience will also count for a lot. Many job openings will be the result of promotions, company expansions, or executives leaving their positions to start their own businesses.

The employment outlook for executives is closely tied to the overall economy. In times when the economy is good, businesses expand both in terms of their output and the number of people they employ. This creates a need for more executives. In economic downturns, businesses often lay off employees and cut back on production, which lessens the need for executives. However, overall, the outlook is good for executives, with faster than average job growth expected through 2033, as reported by the Department of Labor.
