Metaverse Developers

Employment Prospects

Employers

Metaverse developers are employed by software development firms, game studios, virtual and augmented reality companies, and any other business or organization that seeks to have a presence in the metaverse. Companies that are playing a major role in creating and shaping the metaverse include Apple, AWS, Epic Games, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Sony. Some developers are self-employed and provide consulting services to the aforementioned companies and organizations.

Starting Out

Some aspiring developers enter the field directly after college. Others work in lower-level positions (such as software tester), before becoming qualified to move into a developer position.

Job opportunities can be discovered via career fairs, by using the resources of your school’s career center, by creating a LinkedIn page and becoming active on this social networking site, and by visiting the career pages of target employers.

It’s a good idea to build a creative portfolio that presents your best college and professional (if applicable) metaverse-related work (or work in VR, AI, or other fields). Many hiring managers want to see what you’ve done creatively to assess if you are a good fit for the position. It’s also a good idea to share your work on GitHub and get involved in metaverse online communities to raise your profile during your job search and make networking contacts.
