Advanced Manufacturing Engineers

Some engineers are represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furniture Workers/Communications Workers of America, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, and other unions.

Many professional associations provide useful resources such as membership, networking, professional development opportunities, conferences, and publications. Advanced manufacturing engineers work in many professional specialties. Hence, a variety of associations, including the American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Association for Computing Machinery, IEEE Computer Society, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and SME, among other organizations represents them. There are also general manufacturing associations (Association of Equipment Manufacturers and the National Association of Manufacturers) and advanced manufacturing associations (such as the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute, National Additive Manufacturing Association, Association for Advancing Automation, Association for Manufacturing Technology, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, International Society of Automation, National Additive Manufacturing Association, National Council for Advanced Manufacturing, and the Robotic Industries Association). State-level advanced manufacturing associations (such as the Colorado Advanced Manufacturing Association) also provide services to workers in the field. The Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education offers information on training programs, and ABET accredits engineering education programs.
