Clinical Research Nurses

The U.S. Department of Labor does not provide an employment outlook for clinical research nurses, but it does report that job opportunities for registered nurses are projected to grow 5 percent from 2024 to 2034. This is faster than the average (3 percent) for all occupations.

“Over the past decade, the number of clinical trials has exploded globally, and the U.S. conducts a significant share of them,” according to the Certified Clinical Research Professionals Society, which provides clinical research training and certification programs. The society says that “it’s common to see multiple job postings for clinical research coordinators and clinical research associates [including those with nursing backgrounds] in every major city, and even smaller towns if they have active research hospitals or clinics.”

Clinical research nurses with experience, certification, and advanced training should have the best employment prospects during the next decade.
